Volunteerism

CEC organizes various programs that aims to create mass awareness about the existing water crisis and also to solve existing issues to the best of its ability. Some of the programs are detailed below. These programs were executed by CEC members and public volunteers that included officials, students, ladies, etc.

World Water Day 2010

On the account of the World Water Day, a public awareness program was conducted for the public of Chennai and other major cities of Tamil Nadu such as Trichy, Coimbatore etc. In Chennai, the event was conducted at its popular beaches – Marina Beach and Elliot’s Beach. Volunteers from the CEC organization enthusiastically adorned the beaches by wearing Water Conservation placards and interacted with the public and informed them about both the water scarcity crisis and conservation ideas. A rally was conducted in Trichy which witnessed a commendable number of volunteers who took the road with a heart full of enthusiasm and vigor and spread water conservation awareness to the people of Trichy.

World Water Day 2013

Water being a precious commodity would perhaps be the most difficult thing to get after another 20 years and our next generation would be the ones who would suffer without water. This difficult fact was driven in the minds of the young participants of the WES Colloquium organized by CEC during the month of March 2013. The students from various colleges who participated in his conference pledged themselves to this great cause to first change themselves and then create awareness among their peer groups, families and community and spread the message.

As a follow up of this decision CEC facilitated in taking one step forward in creating awareness among the residents of Chennai and Thiruvallur districts with the help of the college students on 22nd March which is the World Water Day.

Some messages on alarming facts about water scarcity, water contamination and water related diseases were prepared to sensitize the public. Some more tips on water conservation were developed and represented pictorially for easy understanding of the common public.

The designed post cards with the messages and a pledge “ I shall save water today, for our children s tomorrow!” with the national flag as the background were distributed by CEC members and the youth volunteers in railway stations , corporate offices , Banks, Public sectors offices , etc. The message was carried to different sections of the community and brought lot of positive response from the people. This was very encouraging as the CEC members shared their experiences after the program. As a step forward through ‘million steps to water’ the post cards would be reprinted and distributed to schools in the city in the next one month.

World Water Day Celebrations In Odisha

It is remarkable to note that one of the students Mr. Vivek from Tata Institute of Sciences, who attended the WES Colloquium organized by CEC In the second week of March 2013, has taken an initiative to extend CEC s efforts in awareness creation among the school students in Odisha. He has organized a series of events like competitions , campaigns, etc, in the schools and distributed prizes to the students to mark the world water day 2013 .CEC takes pleasure in lighting this fire among the students who are the future generation and help spread the message on water conservation.
